About Zack Mautz
Zack is an award-winning drummer, percussionist, and educator, living in Greeley, Colorado. He has been playing music for 20 years, and has been teaching for the last 8. He actively performs and teaches throughout Northern Colorado and the Denver Metro area, playing at local venues and festivals, giving clinics at local high schools and universities, and teaching privately. Zack’s musical versatility and wide knowledge of different percussion instruments and styles has landed him on stage several times with the Greeley Jazz Fest All-Stars and the Drew Zaremba Fellowship, where he has shared the stage with major artists such as Wayne Bergeron, Camille Thurman, and Samuel Torres.
Zack’s passion for music started when he was barely out of his toddler years and begged his parents for a guitar. He played acoustic and electric guitar and eventually found his way to the drums when he was 9 years old. Further down the road he began to play piano and a wide array of keyboard instruments. Zack went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Percussion Performance and a certificate in Jazz Studies from Central Washington University and a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado.
As a teacher, Zack believes in meeting every student where they are at. Regardless of what level or what age a student may be, Zack makes it his goal to create lesson plans that will not only give his students strong fundamental training, but also appeals to their interests. Above all, he wants his students to get better and to have fun while doing so!
