We Emphasize Healthy Technique
Regardless of your ultimate goals, our teachers will prioritize strong fundamentals including proper posture, hand positioning, chords, fretting, picking, and strumming. As students progress, these basics will become second nature – and serve as the foundation from which students can apply their skills across a variety of genres and styles.
We want our guitar students to be literate, well-rounded musicians. Beginners and seasoned performers alike will find value in our approach, coupling technical instruction with elements of music theory and music history in each lesson.

Brayden Pappenfort
Guitar, Bass, Ukulele, Voice, Piano, Mandolin
Brayden is a Colorado Native that studied classical guitar, voice, and piano at SUNY ACC in New York, along with playing in a couple different bands. Before that, he grew up playing mostly rock, blues, and metal guitar.
Tristan Johnson
Piano, Bass, Drums, Guitar & Ukulele
Tristan is a jack of all trades! He recently relocated to Colorado from South Florida with the hopes of pursuing his education further, while studying jazz guitar at UNC. Tristan teaches guitar, piano, bass, guitar, ukulele, and drums at the Academy.

Originally from California, Vanisha has over 35 years of experience in playing music and 25 years of experience as a music educator ranging from teaching instrumental music in a Montessori classroom, band and orchestra at public and charter schools,

Katie Folse is a Fort Collins native who has been playing music for over 20 years. She received an Art History degree from Colorado State University and has been teaching guitar for over 10 years.

Liam Hughes is a Colorado Native who has been playing music for over a full decade, primarily focusing on Guitar, Voice, and Bass guitar. However, he also teaches Mandolin and Ukulele.

Helen M Kimber is a mezzo-soprano from Arcata, California. She graduated with her MM in Vocal Performance at the University of Northern Colorado, and also holds a BA in Vocal Performance from Humboldt State University.

Cory is a multi-instrumentalist who comes from South Dakota and has been playing music for 22 years. Cory obtained his Bachelors of K-12 Music Education from South Dakota State University, and has his Colorado K-12 Public Teaching License.

Devyn, a recent transplant from San Marcos, Texas to Fort Collins, brings over a decade of playing and performing experience and two years of teaching with the Department of Labor.

Jason Hunt is a recent transplant to Fort Collins from Chicago, Illinois. He is a graduate of Northwestern University with a degree in classical guitar. He Has been teaching around the Chicagoland area for the last 23 years prior to coming to Fort Collins.

Nicole Jefferis is a violinist, violist, composer, and educator based in Greeley, Colorado. Once she picked up her first ¼ size violin at five years old, nothing stopped her from exploring and finding more aspects of music to love.

Get StartedWhat Age Should My Child Start Guitar Lessons?
The minimum age recommended for starting guitar lessons is 7 years old. Due to the thickness of the strings and fine motor skills needed to play the instrument, we do not recommend starting guitar any younger. For younger students, we recommend learning the ukulele.
The minimum age we recommend a student start ukulele lessons is 5 years old. For younger students, we recommend an intro to music program. Starting age will largely depend on the student, some may need to wait longer than others depending on factors such as fine motor skills, attention span and overall interest in music.
Do I Need a Guitar/Ukulele to Start the Lessons?
Yes, you will need a guitar or ukulele to start the lessons. Without an instrument, you won’t be able to practice between lessons and make weekly progress. If cost is a concern, good beginner guitars are inexpensive and most music stores have a 30-day return policy if it’s not for you.

We use a variety of guitar method books to accomplish this and encourage students to bring CDs or their iPod, or iphone to their lesson to learn their favorite tunes.
