Music Lesson FAQ
Lessons On The Go® Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
Contact us by filling out a form or give us a call at (281) 401-9580 and we’ll match you with a music teacher who meets your availability and specific interests.
No. There are no lesson registration or startup fees.
Nope! We want to make sure that the teacher assigned to you is the best fit for what you’re looking for before you pay. We will follow up with you after the first lesson to gain your feedback and make sure the teacher is a good fit. If you express the teacher is not a good fit, then the lesson is on us and there is no charge to you. If the teacher is a good fit, you may make your first payment at that time.
Think of it like a hotel reservation. By placing a card on file at the time of booking, it secures your lesson slot so no one else can take that time. Lessons On The Go® does not charge your card before the first lesson. We will charge your card for the single lesson taught ONLY if we are unable to reach you within 7 days after your initial lesson. Don’t worry, we will contact you many times to follow up after your first lesson during the 7 day period. If during the 7 day period after your initial lesson you indicate the teacher is not a good fit, the lesson is on us and no charge will be made. This policy keeps away anyone who is searching for a “freebie” and is not serious about music lessons. It is not fair for us to reserve a slot for someone who is out for a “free lunch” when there are other students who are serious about music lessons and have been waiting for a viable slot.
We recommend having the lesson in a quiet place free of distraction such as other siblings, tv, video games etc. A good place may be a home office or dining room.
Absolutely! We help families and students choose the right instrument and accessories for their needs every day. Depending on what you are looking for, we can even make suggestions on where to purchase or rent instruments and related items such as tuners, picks, music stands, violin bows etc. Just give us a call at (281) 401-9580 or contact your local Lessons On The Go® and we would be love to help!
Lessons On The Go® teachers teach strictly at the location of the student for your convenience.
Safety & Security
Absolutely! Not a single LOTG teacher passes through the door of a student’s home before they have passed a thorough criminal background check. Our background checks include the national sex offender’s registry, national terrorist watch list, possession, felonies, misdemeanors and more.
We require that a legal guardian eighteen years of age or older be present during the lesson. The legal guardian does not have to be in the same room, however, we do encourage parents to sit in on the lesson to gain a better understanding of what their child is working on.
Your payment information will be stored on our secure server which contains high bank level encryption and resides in a separate location than our main website. LOTG has never compromised a single customer’s information in almost a decade of being in business. We take your information very seriously and guard it as if it were our own.
Absolutely not. Lessons On The Go® will NEVER under any circumstance share your information with any third party. We hate spam emails and phone calls just as much as you. We treat your information as if it were our own.
Our Lessons
No. As long as all cancellations are made 24-hours or greater in advance of the scheduled lesson time.
Absolutely not. In fact, about 95% of Lessons On The Go® piano students take lessons on an electric keyboard. Don’t let not having a full piano stop you from learning. Electric keyboards are MUCH cheaper, more portable, and are a great place to start for the beginning student. Contact us and we would be happy to help you find the perfect instrument within your budget!
No. Lessons are taught on a weekly basis to ensure the student is progressing. We’ve found that students who take bi-weekly lessons typically develop poor habits and are prone to losing the progress made in each lesson. For our teachers, their schedules are built for weekly lessons as a bi-weekly lesson slot puts a major gap in their schedule.
This is a question we get asked quite often. We have a simple answer. The more a student practices, the quicker they will progress. It’s that simple. If you or your student are practicing on a daily basis and still feel like you aren’t getting anywhere, contact your teacher and see what suggestions they may have. You may also give us a call and we would be happy to help make some suggestions. Often times it’s not how long you practice, but how well and consistent you practice. Remember, quality, not quantity.
Absolutely. In fact, many of our teachers have strong backgrounds working with students who have ADD/ADHD, autism, dyslexia, down syndrome, reading and writing disabilities, visual impairment, and more.
No. We specialize in private, one-on-one lessons in your home to best fit your individual needs.
Teachers
At the time of booking, you will receive a confirmation email containing your teacher’s contact information. You may contact them any time via email or phone.
In the rare even you are no longer connecting with your teacher, contact your local Lessons On The Go® right away. We want to know about it and get you back on track to enjoying your music lessons. You are welcome to try a different teacher where the same risk-free lesson policy will apply. If you don’t connect with your new teacher in the first lesson, the lesson is on us. Remember, we don’t know what you don’t tell us.
