About Hannah Foote
M.M., Indiana University, B.M. Lawrence University.
Hannah Foote is a Chicago-based pianist, music theorist, and teacher. She was first introduced to classical music at an early age after joining an Anglican church choir, wherein she learned strong keyboard and vocal technique. After auditioning into undergraduate piano programs, her principal teacher was Catherine Kautsky at Lawrence University. During her time at Lawrence, Hannah spent considerable time engaging in both piano and music theory pedagogy. Most recently, Hannah just taught music theory and aural skills courses at IU Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington during her time there as a master’s student. Though Hannah’s scope of teaching is expansive, ranging from ages 4 to late adulthood and comfortable in both private and group settings, she specializes in teaching music to learners with special needs and reading-based difficulties. Gaining special education experience in both music and K–12 classroom settings, Hannah is thrilled to work with all learners and will always strive to deliver teaching methodologies fit for each individual student. Most recently, Hannah participated in the Society for Music Theory’s Annual Pedagogy Conference, wherein she worked with music theory faculty members from Juilliard, Eastman, Lipscomb University, and UMKC on classroom teaching, lesson planning, and pedagogical development in the music classroom.
