About Kyle Wallen
Kyle has been a musician his entire life. From plunking around on the piano in the living room as a child to writing and recording albums at home as an adult, music has always been an integral part of his life. His passion for music really took off when he was sixteen and received his first guitar. Preferring to spend his free time in his room learning the music of his favorite bands, Kyle was instantly hooked. Since then he’s been involved with multiple music projects in his home town Kansas City and his new home of Los Angeles. When not emulating the sounds of his favorite 80s bands, Kyle also pursues a career in filmmaking and acting. He discovered a love of theatre in college as well and it was this fast paced, in the moment training that helped him land a job after college working at a school for kids that require extra behavioral support. Being able to keep a young child’s attention is no easy feat and learning to do so while also teaching a lesson was one of the greatest challenges of his life. It’s this experience combined with a life long study of music that landed him here, ready to impart his guitar knowledge to any eager young mind.
One thing Kyle believes in very strongly is that learning is more effective when the student is excited to be doing the work and doesn’t feel like they’re being instructed. Let the student set the destination, but the teacher chooses the exact coordinates. When it comes to learning guitar this usually means picking at least one piece of music the student loves and listens to in their spare time. The feeling of learning to play a song from a favorite band for the first time is a pretty awesome experience for anyone and helps them push through the often frustrating beginning stages of learning an insturment. The real secret to learning an instrument is repetition and patience.
