About William Gu

William Gu aims to enhance his students’ freedom of artistic expression on the instrument, as well as foster motivation and desire for growth in oneself, whether that be in music or other aspects in life. He desires to help inspire the commitment to and love for the craft and art of music making. William sees his students as unique individuals and tailors his instruction to suit their learning styles and individual needs. He believes every person has a unique and special voice, and music is a wonderful outlet to bring that out. His teaching is highly inspired by pedagogues such as Karen Tuttle, Dorothy Delay, and Shinichi Suzuki. William earned his Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from the University of Maryland as a Creative and Performing Arts Scholar. He completed his Master of Music in Viola Performance and Violin/Viola Pedagogy at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, studying with Victoria Chiang and Rebecca Henry.
