About James
James is a drum, piano, bass, and guitar teacher at Green Brooms music academy; with over 18 years of playing experience and over 9 years of teaching experience! James has his Bachelor’s degree in music from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, where he studied classical percussion and jazz drum set. After graduating he moved to the DC area and worked primarily as a music teacher at various music schools as well as with his own private students, as COVID-19 had made gigging a near impossible feat. He just recently moved to Sawtelle to live out his dreams of working as a full time musician in Los Angeles, and is very excited to start a new chapter of his life with Green Brooms! He considers himself to be an all around musician, and though mostly enjoys hard bop and fusion jazz, hip hop, neo soul, drum and bass, and underground rock music; he is open to teaching and even performing all musical styles. Having experience working with students aged 3-67 on a wide variety of topics including how to play along to songs on drum set, son and rumba clave rhythms on drum set, and Scottish pipe band/marching snare drumming, he is ready to help people grow as musicians in whichever way works best for their needs. James is very excited to share his love of music with his new students!
