Tips for Choosing a Music School
GET STARTEDWhether it be for you, a spouse/partner, a child, another relative or a friend, choosing a music school is like choosing a doctor, a new car, and even a new house – you must do your research! After all, you’ll be investing both your time and money into the school that you select, so you should feel confident that you made the right decision from the very beginning.
If you’re in the process of selecting a music school, here are few things to look for in your options:
Excellent Teachers in Piano, Guitar, and more!
A great music school will have great teachers on staff. Using our piano teachers, for example, be sure to ask about the teachers’ qualifications so that you have a better understanding of their musical background and training, and of course you’ll want to get to know their personality to see if they’re the right fit. Here at Grace Music School, all of our instructors have either conservatory or music school training, and most also have professional performance experience! They’ve also attended some of the top music schools in the nation, such as NYU, Manhattan School of Music and Aaron Copland School of Music.
Comfortable Facilities
You’re going to be spending a great deal of your time in the music school itself, so you should feel comfortable the entire time you’re there. If you’re a parent bringing in a child for lessons, ask about waiting rooms and if there is an opportunity to watch your child practice. On the other hand, if you’re going to be the student, ask about the music rooms to learn the features and amenities available to you. At our music school, our clients have access to a professional waiting room that has comfortable chairs, bottled water, and WiFi! Our music studios also have full view of French Doors so that you can watch a lesson while you wait.
Flexibility
Sometimes there may be a conflict with your schedule and lesson time, and you should never be penalized for that! With that said, you should always look for a music school that is understanding and that offers you a chance to make up a lesson if you have to miss. Furthermore, you should find a music school that is willing to work with your schedule and that offers classes at convenient hours. At Grace Music School we do not require semester minimums for lessons, and we offer a very flexible make-up policy so you never have to worry about missing a lesson. Additionally, our students sign up on a month-to-month basis, so there is no long-term contract holding you down! Many of our students come to us between 11 AM and 2 PM, but we have multiple class times so that you can find something that works.
In addition to all of the above, don’t forget to ask for references and testimonials too! You want to know that the school you choose has been successful and is well-respected by other students – click here to see what our students and their families have said about working with us!
