Summer Strings Chamber Music Series
Two three-week courses for string players, one for intermediate-advanced students (NYSSMA level 3-6) and one for beginner students (NYSSMA level 1-2), culminating in a recital performance this summer. Ensemble music studied will be provided by Grace Music School.
Beginner Course
NYSSMA levels 1-2 or equivalent
Dates: Mondays-Fridays, July 6th – 24th
Times: 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Pricing: $60/CLASS ($900 TOTAL)
During this three week course for beginner string players (NYSSMA level 1-2 or skill equivalent), students will be introduced to the early stages of music ensemble playing. Group listening skills will be emphasized, incorporating melding instrumental tone with counting and other elements of music. Through guided musical parts instruction, participants will have the opportunity to perform in small group ensembles, culminating in a recital which will be open to students’ families on the last day of the class series (Friday, 7/24 at 1:00 p.m.).
In order to participate in the final performance, students must attend all classes.
Advanced Course
NYSSMA levels 3-6 or equivalent
Dates: Mondays-Fridays, July 6th – 24th
Times: 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Pricing: $60/CLASS ($900 TOTAL)
During this three week course for Intermediate to Advanced string players (NYSSMA levels 3-6 or skill equivalent), students will learn the basics of Chamber Music performance as well as the history of the genre. Through guided musical parts instruction, participants will have the opportunity to play their instruments in small group ensembles, culminating in a performance in our Summer Concert Series. Ensemble music studied will be provided by Grace Music School.
In order to participate in the final performance, students must attend all classes.
Meet The Instructor – Dr. P
Course Facilitator Dr. P. holds Doctor of Musical Arts, Master of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees, as well as numerous teaching and related pedagogical and administrative Certificates.
She has enjoyed a varied and active solo, chamber music and orchestral performance and teaching career which has included participation in and coaching of student and semi-professional instrumentalists in venues across the Mid.- to Eastern United States, England, Ireland and other European countries.
Dr. P has been affiliated with Grace Music School for the past two academic years.
