About Michael Alvarez
Michael Alvarez is a freelance musician and a private teacher at Grace Music School in Woodbury, New York. He is a multi-instrumentalist who plays saxophone, piano, guitar, and a variety of other woodwind and string instruments and is also an accomplished vocalist. Alvarez graduated magna cum laude from Long Island University with a Bachelor of Music in Woodwind Performance in 2014 while also receiving the Department of Music Award for Service in Jazz as well as the School of Visual and Performing Arts Academic Achievement award.
After graduating, Michael toured and performed with various groups and acts including but not limited to Barry Manilow, America’s Got Talent finalist Sal Valentinetti, Black Tie Brass, Nick Tangorra, and Samurai Pizza Cats. He has performed at many prestigious venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Best Buy Theatre in Times Square, The Prudential Center, NYCB Theatre at Westbury, The Nikon Theatre at Jones Beach, The Paramount, and B.B. Kings in Manhattan. Besides an active performance career, Michael has also been a part of a multitude of recording projects within the Northeastern United States including most recently an album with composer, bandleader, and bassist Ike Sturm.
Currently, Michael is pursuing his master’s in music education at Long Island University. Michael loves teaching students of all ages and experiences and enjoys helping his students achieve their own musical goals.
