About Lauren Kurtz
Lauren Kurtz has a love of music and wants to pass that on to others. She started playing the flute in Junior High School and shortly added the piccolo and tenor saxophone. In High School, she added the alto saxophone and clarinet to her repertoire. Upon starting college, she picked up the alto flute as well. She has a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education. At Brooklyn College, she had the pleasure of studying flute under the tutelage of Bernard Goldberg, former principal flutist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and playing Jazz under Grammy Award-winning artist Arturo O’Farrill.
She approaches teaching with the same gusto she has for playing. Music is fun and the learning should be as well. She finds that her positive attitude can be contagious, as she wants her students to understand her love for music. If they feel the same, there is nothing that can stop them. Learning comes in various levels. They build on each success and the learning progresses. Included in her lessons are learning how to read the music and the corresponding fingering on the instrument(s). Lauren also wants her students to know how to care for their instruments and she walks them through how to properly put them together, take apart, and clean. She believes in demonstrating how to do things and playing along as it helps a student learn the music and how to play.
Lauren looks forward to working with you and bringing the music in your soul out for all to hear.
