About Grace Casey
A popular and award-winning piano teacher, Grace Casey (Heaphy) has been teaching piano since 2006 with students ranging from ages 3 to adult. Grace has previously taught and maintained a successful piano studio in NYC and Long Island. She currently teaches piano lessons virtually at Grace Music School and in Charleston, SC. She is also on faculty at Ashley Hall where she teaches piano and accompanies students.
Through the years, Grace’s students have been recognized for their musical excellence. Her students have been awarded prizes in the Suffolk County Region PTA Reflections Composition Contest, finalists in multiple Long Island competitions with performances at Lincoln Center, the Tilles Center (with Lang Lang) and Steinway Hall. Grace’s students have also been accepted into piano performance college programs.
Many of her students have also received praise in performances and adjudications, such as NYSSMA. Grace has taught college level private piano lessons and keyboard skill classes, serving as an Adjunct Professor at NYU from 2012 – 2015. She taught at the Manhattan School of Music Summer Camp and also worked as their Teaching Artist from 2007 – 2011. Through this outreach program, she had the opportunity to teach piano lessons to underprivileged youth in NYC.
Active in her field as piano teacher, Grace is a member of the New York State School Music Association, Charleston Music Teachers Association as well as the South Carolina Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association. She currently serves on the board for the Charleston Music Teachers Association. She is also a Steinway Educational Partner. Previously she was a NYSSMA adjudicator for solo piano evaluations Levels I-VI. She regularly attends piano pedagogy classes, seminars, and conventions.
Grace received her Master’s degree in Piano Performance from NYU where she studied with Eduardus Halim, an accomplished concert pianist and former student of Vladimir Horowitz. She has her Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from the Manhattan School of Music with Philip Kawin.
Grace is an active performer and performs at Merkin Hall, Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, the Staller Center, the Cell, the Bowery Poetry Club, John W. Engemen Theater, as well as other locations around New York City, Long Island, and Charleston. A pianist with demonstrated talent, she was also the first place winner in the Long Island Choral Society’s 23rd Annual Young Artists Competition. She collaborated with the Manhattan Connection, a singing group that specialized in Show Tunes and Classical Music. She was also the pianist with the group Symphony Z as part of the Tribeca New Music Festival and periodically performed as a solo pianist at Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle. She has performed at the Tanglewood Summer Music Institute, Summit Music Festival, Burgos International Music Festival in Spain, the International Academy of Music in Italy and the Stony Brook University Summer Music Festival.
Grace frequently accompanies school choirs, solo vocalists, musicals, and All State musicians. When she is not teaching, she enjoys playing organ for churches, headshot photography and being a mom to 2 amazing boys!
