About Frank Lao
Frank Lao has enjoyed more than 10 years as a professional musician since graduating from the University of Delaware with a bachelor’s degree in Applied Music. At UD Frank was the founder and president of the UD Percussion Club and raced with the UD Cycling Team.
Frank’s favorite teaching experience was with the Hicksville High School Marching Band where he was the Percussion Caption Head for 6 years. At Hicksville, Frank started a winter percussion program that evolved into an opportunity for students to perform at the Nassau Coliseum for the Long Island Nets as the resident “Nets Noise” drum line. Frank has also spent time teaching at Roslyn High School and other Long Island marching programs.
As a freelance percussionist, Frank gigs lots of weddings in the tristate area and beyond. He plays with various bands and ensembles but holds a special niche for performing with DJs. This unique setting is the inspiration for his interview based podcast about hybrid ensembles in the entertainment industry. Frank has also played with the Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra and the Massapequa Philharmonic. An avid vibraphonist and amateur singer, Frank also enjoys mountain biking, RC Racing, and keeping houseplants. He is very excited by the opportunity to teach at Grace Music School.
