About Alexandra Frederick
Alexandra “Alex” Frederick is a singer and pianist, teacher and performer. She grew up in the UK and came to New York City to pursue her love of jazz, where she studied with NEA Jazz Master Sheila Jordan, and international recording artists vocalist Mark Murphy and pianist JoAnne Brackeen, amongst others. Alex has been teaching piano and voice for over 20 years and is a regular piano bar entertainer at Don’t Tell Mama’s Cabaret Club in NYC; she has performed for cruise ships, hotels, and multiple public and private events. She is also co-founder of The Smoky Caipirinhas Duo | Bossa Nova and Swing with Brazilian multi-percussionist Leo Guerra.
Alex says, “I’ve been balancing both teaching and performing for many years now and feel they strongly complement and support each other. I get so much inspiration from students and their amazing ideas and perceptions, and in turn love to share my experience as a seasoned performer. I encourage new musicians to be open and to explore many styles of music!”
She holds two music degrees, Classical Performance in Double Bass and Piano from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, England, and Jazz Vocal Performance from The City College of New York.
Alex is excited to be working with the Grace School and Ensemble Music Schools!
