Musically Inclined: Smithtown Spotlight
GET STARTEDWe’re back with another edition of our series “Musically Inclined” that highlights the musical programs in towns on Long Island. This month, we’re focusing on Smithtown in Suffolk County!
Public School Programs
The Smithtown public school district offers a number of programs within their fine arts department. These include district music events such as NYSSMA festivals, All-County NYSSMA performances, and numerous musical ensembles. Children in middle school and high school can participate in band and orchestra, while younger students in elementary school are offered opportunities to participate in music festivals.
There are also a number of theater and parade performances throughout the calendar year open to students who participate in fine arts programs. High school seniors can also round out their musical journeys with an award night at the end of their school careers.
Friends of Music
This group supports the musical endeavors of students in the Smithtown school district and hosts several events throughout the year to raise money to be donated right back to music education. Some events include their:
Jazz Dinner Fundraiser
At this event, students from Smithtown East & Smithtown West high schools entertain dinner patrons with an evening of jazz music. If you like jazz music and would like to support music education, this is the event for you.
Smithtown Township Arts Council
The Arts Council offers many music-based programs such as:
- Acoustic Afternoons Open Mic
- Jazz in the Living Room
These programs are typically free to watch and listen to, and only cost about $5 to participate or play in — and all the money goes to support the council.
