A New Music School Opens in the Lowcountry

Founders John and Geri Heaphy Share The Story Behind Grace Music School – September 2025

Grace Music School has recently opened their newest location in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina after eleven years of service in New York. Their new location is walking distance from Wando High School, which features one of the most comprehensive band programs in South Carolina. Grace Music School offers world class music lessons for all ages for a range of instruments, including piano, voice, strings, percussion, and more! 

Fox 24 sat down with Grace Music School founders John and Geri Heaphy to discuss the school’s humble beginnings and rapid growth since then. After seeing how music positively impacted their own daughter’s academics, discipline and self-confidence, the Heaphy’s were inspired to start their own family business. Since they started eleven years ago (with only two teachers!) their family business quickly evolved their home lessons into multiple commercial locations, and now has a combined enrollment of about nine hundred students, forty five teachers and eight staff members. 

“Our school grew pretty rapidly to four hundred students, and Steinway & Sons Piano took notice of us. They wanted to open a music school in their showroom on Long Island. Basically they built a school for us in their showroom and we came in and operated it,” John Heaphy explains. “We were very honored because we were the first music school to ever be invited into the company owned showroom, and they liked what Grace Music School was doing, so they picked us.” Grace Music School is the first and only school in the history of Steinway & Sons to have that privilege! Grace Music School is continuing to strive towards success in their school recitals, private lessons, and other group ensembles.
