Sergey Efuni was born in Moscow, Russia to a family of academics. From a young age Sergey was exposed to poetry, theater, and fine art. When he was 12, Sergey’s family came to the United States as refugees, and during that time he discovered songwriting as a way to cope with the difficulties of being a teen immigrant.
Sergey began his vocal studies in North Carolina Central University with Elvira Green, who was one of the first Black sopranos at The Metropolitan Opera. He continued his studies at Boyer College of Music under the tutelage of internationally acclaimed jazz singer Joanna Pascale. After moving to Los Angeles, Sergey began a mentorship with Tamara Beatty, who has been a vocal coach on The Voice for over ten seasons.
After receiving his music degree, Sergey began a career in artist development in New York City, which included guiding the careers of numerous alumni of NBC’s The Voice, American Idol, and America’s Got Talent. Sergey’s client roster included Wesley Stromberg (AGT winner), Paxton Ingram, MacKenzie Bourg, Andrew Foy, among many others. Sergey served as the lead project manager at Gramophone Media in Manhattan, where during his tenure Gramophone signed K-pop acts BTS, Tiffany Young, and Monsta X.
In 2019, Sergey founded an LA-based rock group, GROMKO, which has performed across the nation at venues like The Hotel Café in Los Angeles, Rockwood Music Hall in New York City, and in Philadelphia. In 2024, GROMKO was presented The Way Maker Award by Jazz Hands For Autism for their philanthropy work within the special-needs community.
Today, Sergey coaches a full roster of clients in voice, guitar, ukulele, and bass. Sergey tailors his approach to fit each client’s needs, from beginner to professional. For nearly a decade, musicians have won roles, gained millions of streams online, and found joy in music under Sergey’s guidance.
