About Eugene Iosilevich

With over 30 years of experience as a performing pianist, Eugene Iosilevich brings a rich blend of classical discipline, jazz fluency, and contemporary versatility to both his performance and teaching. Trained from an early age in the rigorous Russian and German classical traditions by renowned professors, Eugene developed a strong technical and artistic foundation. As a teenager, he earned regional awards in classical piano while also immersing himself in rock and jazz, cultivating a stylistic range that continues to define his musical voice.

Eugene studied jazz at Berklee College of Music and later pursued classical piano performance and composition at Syracuse University. After his collegiate studies, he enlisted as a keyboardist in the U.S. Army Bands, where he spent eight years refining his craft in highly professional and diverse performance settings. His military career included two overseas deployments, a West Coast rock-band tour, and performances at numerous ceremonies, special events, and public concerts. These experiences strengthened his adaptability, discipline, and leadership as a musician. While in service, Eugene received additional training at the Armed Forces School of Music (NSOM). In addition to advanced jazz piano studies, he trained in auxiliary percussion and comprehensive ensemble performance, including marching band, concert band, jazz quartet, stage band, show band, and rock band. Throughout this time, Eugene also served as Church Pianist for local churches and chapels overseas. It was no coincidence that he immediately found employment as a church music director upon embarking on his civilian musical journey in Northern Virginia, where he has continued to serve since 2008.

As an instructor, Eugene emphasizes a strong classical technical foundation while integrating jazz theory, improvisation, and arranging skills. He encourages students to explore a wide spectrum of musical styles, including classical, jazz, rock, and popular music. Composition and songwriting are also central components of his teaching philosophy, empowering students to develop creativity alongside technical mastery. His goal is to help each student discover their unique musical voice while building the skills and confidence needed for lifelong musicianship.

In addition to teaching, Eugene maintains an active performance schedule throughout the area. His playing and instruction reflect a lifelong passion for music—infused with joy, insight, and expertise shaped by decades of study, performance, and dedication to the art form.
