We Emphasize Healthy Technique
Singing may look simple enough, but the voice is a complex series of systems that form an expressive and delicate living instrument inside of each of us. Perhaps more than any other musical discipline, having an experienced voice teacher to assist you in training these processes to work together is key to a healthy, lifelong enjoyment of singing.
Flatts & Sharpe highly-trained instructors will assist you in learning strong fundamentals including proper breathing, diction, resonance, stage presence, and non-verbal expression. We strive to ensure that our voice students become literate musicians, so lessons will also include discussions of music theory, history, and rhythm. Mastering these technical basics will broaden your horizons and allow you to explore many different styles and genres of music in the future!

Frequently Asked Questions
Get StartedWhat Is a Good Age to Start Voice Lessons?
The minimum age we recommend a student start voice lessons is around 6 years old. Many parents want their child to start much younger, but a voice lesson that focuses strictly on technique can be very challenging on younger vocal cords that have not yet developed. We are happy to help you learn more and determine if your child is ready!
Teens and adults are welcome and may also want to include voice lessons with another instrument they are learning. Professional singing lessons can be very beneficial, especially if you learn from a talented teacher. Flatts & Sharpe provides the best vocal coaching in Chicago. Whether you’re looking to take lessons yourself or are looking for a voice teacher for your son or daughter, you will receive the following benefits and more.

What Styles of Singing Do You Teach?
If you have always wanted to be a better rock, pop, country, jazz, gospel, theatre, or R&B singer, then we have the right voice teachers for you! Voice students spend time each week doing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more. All voice students set goals with their teacher to work on sounding like their favorite recording artists, preparing for a theatre audition, or if they prefer, to develop their own unique voice. You will discover our voice teachers are fun and patient when you take voice lessons at Flatts & Sharpe.
How Qualified Are Your Voice Instructors?
Our voice lesson instructors have received their musical education from prestigious institutions all over the country! They bring professional performance and teaching experience to your lessons. Many of our students report that they feel more confident after our lessons. While singing in front of a group of people can be nerve-wracking, working with a coach on a regular basis can help to assuage some of those fears. If your anxieties are keeping you from singing, one of our coaches may be able to give you the encouragement that you need.
When you work with a coach, you’ll receive constructive feedback on the way you sing. Your teacher will work to keep you motivated and will teach you techniques that will help you remain poised and collected when you sing in front of others.
