About Sophia Alvini-Moore
Sophia Alvini-Moore is a cello teacher and performer in the greater Winchester area. They are currently studying Cello Performance and Pedagogy at the Shenandoah Conservatory with renowned teacher and cellist Julian Schwarz. Whether playing solo, in chamber ensembles, or in an orchestra, cello is their passion.
They have played in several orchestras including the Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra, and the Newark Symphony Orchestra. Sophia has worked with incredible chamber coaches in their time at the Settlement Music School as well as in the Temple Prep Center for Gifted Young Musicians.
They have attended the Eastern Music Festival in 2020, 2021, and 2022 as well as the Techne Music Festival in 2022. They also earned an Honorable Mention in the 2021 Delaware Concerto Competition for Young Musicians. Sophia has twice received the James Miles Musical Innovation Grant from the Black Violin Foundation.
Sophia believes in the transformative qualities that music has. Their calling as a teacher comes from experiencing the way music has improved their own life. Sophia meets students where they are and guides them in their cello journey
