About Bassell Atum Franks
Bassell Atum Franks grew up was surrounded by musicians in his family, exposed to the performing art of the New Jersey/New York area at a young age. His musical journey began with the violin and piano, upon picked up the trumpet at 9 years old. Bassell participated in numerous music programs like the Jazz Mobil, Harlem School for the Arts, the New York City Inter-Youth Orchestra and Interlochen Arts Camp, and has studied with great musicians like Antonio Underwood, Cecil Bridgewater, Jimmy Owens, Kelvyn Bell and the late Dr. William Fielder.
Before graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in music and masters in College Student Development and Administration (CSDA) from Shepherd University, Bassell graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy under the instruction of Ken Larson.
Bassell’s first professional record debut was on Tone East Music LLC’s “Summit Love”. Since then he has performed and been featured on a number of Mr. Underwood’s recordings, both on trumpet and spoken word.
