About Sophie Stubbs
Cellist Sophie Stubbs is an active chamber, orchestral, and freelance artist originally from Minnesota. She recently received her master’s degree at the University of Colorado Boulder in cello performance and pedagogy under the instruction of David Requiro. Her bachelor of music degree in cello performance was completed at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, studying with Gregory Hamilton. Alongside performing, Sophie is passionate about providing access to classical music to underserved communities, having worked as the Education Coordinator for the Lakes Area Music Festival.
Sophie was selected as a soloist from the Concordia Orchestra Senior Honors concerto competition in 2019, and has spent several summers performing in festivals such as the Lakes Area Music Festival and the Brevard Music Center Summer Institute. She has performed in masterclasses with Amit Peled, Benjamin Hughes, Matthew Zalkind, and Thomas Mesa, as well as chamber masterclasses with the Kronos Quartet and the Takács Quartet.
As a teacher, Sophie strives to provide an individualized education to each student while developing the whole musician. She aims to inspire and challenge her students to grow as both people and artists. Outside of her musical endeavors, Sophie appreciates any combination of coffee, books, and time spent with friends and family.
