About Kayla Sandoval

Kayla is a classically trained soprano and voice teacher based in Colorado, her home state. Music has always been a huge part of her life having studied music from a young age. She attended Denver School of the Arts in high school where she cultivated her passion to pursue voice as a career.

She currently holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from San Francisco Conservatory of Music where she studied with Catherine Cook, as well as a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Wichita State University where she studied with Dr. Cristina Castaldi. During her time at WSU, she also taught voice as a Direct Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Voice and Opera Performance Department, igniting her passion for teaching.

In addition to her experience teaching at the collegiate level, Kayla currently teaches a wide range of students with varying ages, voice types, and levels of vocal/musical development since returning home to Colorado. She teaches multiple vocal styles including classical art song/aria, musical theatre, as well as some CCM/popular music.

Her teaching philosophy is to conduct herself, not only as a music teacher, but as a human who tries to first understand the person in front of her and meet them where they are in their own unique artistic and life journey. Her approach to instruction is to tailor lessons to each student’s individual goals/needs, voices, and interests. She encourages her students to pursue authenticity, growth, and discovery, not perfection and provides a safe, supportive, and fun teaching environment where her students can thrive.

Kayla also has an extensive performance background. Her most recent roles include Miss Pinkerton in Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief, Jack’s Mother in Sondheim’s Into the Woods, and Jack in The Threepenny Opera by Weil. She intends to continue pursuing performance opportunities in the future, however, her current goals include further cultivating her role as a voice teacher and helping students achieve their most authentic voices and develop their own unique relationship with music. Kayla is excited to be continuing her teaching journey with Dana V. Music
