About Jack Murphy
Jack is a singer-songwriter, composer, guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, and drummer hailing from the South Jersey suburbs of Philadelphia. Largely self-taught, Jack began to play his primary instrument, guitar, at the age of 7. Having spent several years improving his technique and learning countless songs, from Blink-182 to Led Zeppelin to Gorillaz, he finally turned to improvisation and writing at the age of 18. With the help of a looper pedal and the early performances of fellow redhead Ed Sheeran, he learned to compose from scratch on an acoustic guitar—and a keyboard, if he had one handy.
During his years studying at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, he spent a tremendous amount of time practicing, composing, and improvising with others in pursuit of the eye-opening fulfillment that only music seemed to provide him. It was here that he learned to sing and to play bass, drums, and, to some extent, organ, thanks to the nurturing musical environment in which he lived. Although he has sung and played every one of these instruments live, guitar is still his preference and area of greatest expertise.
Now Jack spends his days practicing, learning, writing, and producing with plans to release his own music in the next several months. He thinks of music as the most direct form of emotional communication, and there’s nothing he loves more.
