About Maureen Zahara
Maureen Zahara has been a public school music educator for over 20 years, and a private lesson music instructor for even longer. She received her Bachelors from WCSU and Masters in Music Education from UCONN and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She is an accomplished professional musician in many respects – she is a classical pianist, vocalist, and woodwind player, including the flute, clarinet, and saxophone, and also teaches beginner guitar and ukulele. Maureen has extensive experience working with young people through her career as a public elementary school music teacher and has instructional expertise with special needs children.
In 2019, she was awarded the honor of Teacher of the Year in CT for both her school and district. Over the years, she has performed on stage as a vocalist in numerous concerts and musicals in both lead and supporting roles, and she has performed in numerous chamber, symphonic, and show-based ensembles on various instruments over the years. In her words, “Music lessons do more than just give the brain new information….it feeds the heart and soul.
