About Irina Desmond
Irina Desmond is a classically trained cellist who began her musical studies at the age of 10 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. During her early education at a children’s music school, she achieved recognition in competitions, which led her to pursue professional training. She continued her studies at the Khamza State Music College and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in stringed instruments from the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan, where she studied under Professor Atham Mansirev.
Irina has performed extensively with orchestras, chamber ensembles, and quartets, holding both principal and section cello positions. Her experience includes serving as Principal Cellist with the Symphony Orchestra of the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan, the State Television and Radio Chamber Orchestra of Uzbekistan, and the Musical Comedy Theater Orchestra in Tashkent. She has also performed as a section cellist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, and in the United States as a section and acting principal cellist with the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra in Virginia. She currently serves as Principal Cellist with the NIH Philharmonia.
