Say Hello to Our New Instructors!

MS. HANNAH – Piano/Voice Instructor

Ms. Hannah is a professional opera singer and music teacher from Portland, Oregon and has recently relocated up to the Bonney Lake area. She has performed operatic roles and solo oratorio repertoire both nationally and internationally. While getting her Masters and Bachelors degrees in vocal performance, Ms. Hannah discovered her love for teaching and began instructing voice and piano students of all ages. She loves bringing the joy of music to the next generation!

 

 

MR. MATTHEW – Drums/Bass/Voice Instructor

Born and raised in Tacoma, Washington, Mr. Matthew is one of the many wonderful musicians in the Pacific Northwest. He got his first pair of drumsticks at just 1.5 years old, and hasn’t put them down since. He started rapping and writing lyrics at the age of 8 and has loved fulfilling his own music career as a hip hop artist using his unique voice. Mr. Matthew has invested many hours into furthering his vocal abilities, and enjoys teaching students to do the same. Mr. Matthew can’t wait to help students of all ages continue to grow in their musical journey!

 

  

MS. KATELYN – Guitar/Ukulele/Flute/Voice/Piano/Saxophone/Clarinet Instructor

Previous to working for Cappella Music Academy, Ms. Katelyn was a Pre-K through 6th grade general music teacher. She had the pleasure of teaching many instruments including flute, piano, guitar, voice, ukulele, and more! Sparking the growth and passion for music in her students is Ms. Katelyn’s true passion and helping them succeed is her calling.

Ms. Camryn – Cello/Piano

What is your first musical memory?

My first musical memory is learning to play Yankee Doodle on the piano at age six. I was so excited and played it over and over again until I was tired of it. I still remember it fifteen years later!

What inspired you to become a music teacher?

I started teaching music lessons when I was in high school and a younger kid asked me about playing cello. I offered to show him how, and it turned into me developing lesson plans and him being my student for several years. I love sharing my love of music, and showing that music can be an escape from our daily stresses.

What practice tips and tricks do you have for Cappella Academy students?

My orchestra director in college told me a practice tip that I use every single time a practice. Grab five little things- coins, pens, whatever- and put them on your stand. Practice a small section of your music until it’s perfect, and then play through it five times without making a mistake, moving your little items to the other side of your stand each time. Once all five things are moved, then you can move on to the next section of your piece.

What is the one thing you want your students to take away from their lessons with you?

I want my students to take away many things from our lessons, but one big idea to remember is that making mistakes— in music and in life— is important to do and completely okay! I’ve learned throughout my musical journey that mistakes happen, but as long as you don’t let them stop you from finishing your piece and practice through them later, it’s okay to move on. The same can be applied to life, and I want my students to learn that lesson through music just like I did.
