Ask a Cappella Teacher!

Ms. Allison-Flute/Piccolo/Piano

What is your first musical memory?

My first musical memory is going to a concert with my family. It was an Irish folk group called Colcannon – very lively and fun. Once I heard the sound of the flute, I knew that I wanted to try it and that same flautist later became my flute teacher!

What inspired you to become a music teacher?

I’d say the biggest thing that inspired me to become a music teacher is all the great music teachers I’ve had the pleasure of having! I’ve gotten to personally see how a good, patient teacher can really affect a student’s everyday life, both inside and outside their music lessons.

What practice tips and tricks do you have for

Cappella Academy students?

The biggest piece of advice I have for practicing is that consistency is key! If you play even just a little bit every day, it quickly becomes habit and doesn’t feel like a chore! 20 minutes a day, 6 days a week is far more beneficial than 2 hours right before your lesson!

What is the one thing you want your students to take away

from their lessons with you?

One of the biggest thing I want my students to take away from their lessons is that music is fun! I love incorporating music games, composing, improvising, and sight reading in my lessons to see students realize that for themselves!

How did Cappella Music Academy get its name?

In seeking the perfect name for such an elite music academy that celebrates the talent and creativity of each unique individual, it was important to find a name that would depict not only the distinctiveness of the academy, but also communicate that it is made up of several incredible and talented individuals, including teachers, administrators, marketing gurus, etc. Thus, when Daniel and Brittany Bennett founded the academy, they decided to name it after a very special star.

Capella /kəˈpɛlə/, is the brightest star in the constellation of Auriga, the sixth-brightest star in the night sky, and the third-brightest in the northern celestial hemisphere after Arcturus and Vega. A prominent object in the northern winter sky, its name means “little goat” in Latin.

Although it appears to be a single star to the naked eye, Capella is actually a quadruple star system organized in two binary pairs. The primary pair are two bright yellow giant stars, both of which are around 2.5 times as massive as the Sun. The secondary pair are around 10,000 astronomical units from the first and are two faint, small and relatively cool red dwarfs. Capella is one of the brightest X-ray sources in the sky.

Cappella Spotlight on the Guitar

What will I learn in my guitar lessons?

Our guitar teachers in Bonney Lake and Tacoma teach rock, blues, metal, country and classical guitar lessons on electric and acoustic guitars.

Beginner guitar students can expect to work on chords, simple songs, and melodies, sight-reading, and theory.

We balance musicianship and fun by making sure that at each lesson you are challenged with a new technical or theory concept, but always end with something fun such as your favorite riff or song.

We use a variety of guitar method books to accomplish this and encourage students to bring CDs or their iPod to their guitar lessons to learn their favorite tunes.

Our Bonney Lake and Tacoma guitar teachers are committed to offering the highest level of guitar lessons possible. Sign up for guitar lessons today with one of our world-class guitar teachers!

You can start lessons as early as this week! We have open enrollment, and lessons are first come, first serve! We are currently 99% full, so call or email us today to secure your lesson spot!
