About Anna Torgerson
Anna grew up in Minnesota surrounded by music. She began teaching in 2007 while still working on her performance degree. She enjoys helping each student understand and get excited about music. She also enjoys encouraging and building up people who thought they would never be able to play.
Anna graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire with a degree in Piano Performance. While there, Anna played with the large ensembles of UWEC Symphony Orchestra and Wind Symphony, and was the 2010 winner of the Wind Symphony Concerto Competition. Being interested in New Music, she collaborated with fellow composition students to perform their works. She also accompanied for anything that needed a pianist, ranging from the opera to solo euphonium players to community church liturgies. Each of these performances taught her different skills which she uses in teaching.
Anna came to Chicago to expand her creative resources. She writes and improvises her own music, learned how to improvise as an actor, and now performs regularly as a music director at the iO Theater for improv comedy.
