Bucktown Music co-founder Luis Solares was born and raised in Guatemala, and the Solares family has subsequently stayed connected with Guatemala, frequently visiting with their daughter. In February 2022, their family toured the Amor de Patricia Children’s Home and immediately knew that they wanted to bring the joy of music to these wonderful kids.
Bucktown Music is now thrilled to partner with El Amor de Patricia to provide a high quality music education to the children and caregivers in the Children’s Home, just outside Guatemala City. El Amor de Patricia is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower Guatemalan children, families, and communities to reach their full potential.
We will be teaching virtually while in Chicago, and in-person when we are in Guatemala.
Jessica shares early childhood music activities with the nannies and caregivers in the group home, which they use with the babies and toddlers to boost brain development and early learning.
Luis works with the older children in the home, giving them ukulele lessons. The home had some ukuleles on-site, and they stopped by the local music store (in Guatemala) to pick up some new strings and do minor repairs so the instruments will be in good condition for lessons.
Music is not only a universal language; it also heals trauma, gives a creative outlet to express oneself, and most importantly, creates connection.
