About Ellen Rice

Originally from Springfield, Missouri, Ellen Rice made stops in Recife, Brazil, Washington, D.C., and Urbana, IL before making Colorado home in 2019. Ellen earned degrees from American University (B.A. in Music, 2013) and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (M.M. in Musicology, 2019), where they conducted research about northeastern Brazilian popular music and gender. In addition to working in various administrative capacities with organizations including Smithsonian Folkways Recordings and the Robert E. Brown Center for World Music at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), Ellen taught courses in “world music” and co-founded the northeastern Brazilian music ensemble, Nação Terra do Milho, at UIUC.

As Program Director for At Your Door Music, Ellen is excited about providing opportunities for teachers and students to connect through music. A musician as well as an administrator, Ellen performs regularly throughout the Boulder area as a cellist, multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter. Ellen is part of several local bands, including the trio Crow Song, featuring guitarist, singer-songwriters Sherri Tennant and JD Cordlé.

Outside of work, Ellen enjoys hiking and other outdoor adventures, attending concerts, and hanging out with friends.
